This past weekend GRP biathlon had athletes racing the World Cup in Ruhpolding, Germany and the IBU Cup in Arber, Germany. 

World Cup:

The fifth World Cup of the season began last week with a sprint in which Susan Dunklee placed 20th with one miss and Clare Egan finished 35th with two misses. For the men, Jake Brown had a personal-best World Cup finish in 47th with clean shooting. Next up was a relay. Clare and Susan were joined by USBA teammates Joanne Reid and Deedra Irwin. Clare cleaned her first shooting stage with no penalties and Susan cleaned both her stages using a total of four spares. The team finished 16th with two penalties and twelve spares. In the men’s relay, Jake was joined by USBA teammates Leif Nordgren, Sean Doherty, and Max Durtschi. Jake was the third leg and the team placed 17th with one penalty and thirteen spares. The final race of the weekend was a mass start. Clare and Susan were the only GRP athletes to qualify placing 24th and 25th respectively. World Cup racing action continues next weekend in Antholz, Italy. 

IBU Cup:

Meanwhile on the IBU Cup in Arber, the weekend got underway with a short individual race. Emily Dreissigacker had a strong race placing 16th. She was followed by Hallie Grossman in 44th. For the men, Alex Howe placed 38th with Raleigh Goessling close behind in 40th. The next race was a sprint in which Hallie posted a new personal-best IBU Cup result finishing 14th with clean shooting. Emily placed 38th. Both Emily and Hallie earned starts in the pursuit where they finished 24th and 47th respectively. IBU Cup racing continues next weekend in Lenzerheide, Switzerland.
