Susan Dunklee, Emily Dreissigacker, and Clare Egan kicked off their race season at the first Biathlon World Cup in Pokljuka, Slovenia. The first World Cup event of the season is always a relay. Clare and Susan, along with USBA teammates Leif Nordgren and Sean Doherty, placed 15th in the mixed relay. Susan scrambled for the team and, despite an unfortunate crash in which she lost a ski, she had a strong leg shooting clean in both stages and using a total of 2 spares. Susan tagged off to Clare who also shot clean and used three spares. The team had no penalty laps and used a total of 9 spares.

The next event was an individual race. Susan had an impressive race finishing 11th with only 1 miss in her final stage. Clare placed 60th with 5 misses and Emily Dreissigacker 69th with 4 misses. Next up was the sprint event. Emily did not compete, but Clare raced to her second-best World Cup result finishing 15th with just one standing miss. Susan finished 45th. Both women qualified for the following day’s pursuit in which Clare moved up to 6th place earning herself a new personal-best and only incurring one miss. Her previous personal-best was a 13th place earned last year. Susan also moved up finishing 39th with two misses.

Emily is now headed to Ridnaun, Italy to join up with fellow GRP biathletes Hallie Grossman, Kelsey Dickinson, Jake Brown, and Alex Howe to compete in the IBU cup while Clare and Susan will head to Hochfilzen, Austria for World Cup 2.
