GRP Biathletes Compete on World Cup and in Final IBU Cup

This past weekend some of the GRP contingency competed at the World Cup in Nove Mesto while others raced the final IBU of the season in Minsk. 

World Cup:

Racing began in Nove Mesto with a sprint in which Clare Egan placed 33rd with only two standing misses. She was followed by Susan Dunklee in 36th and Emily Dreissigacker in 92nd. For the men, Jake Brown finished 70th. Next up were relay races. The women’s team consisted of Emily, Susan, and Clare along with USBA teammate Joanne Reid. Emily scrambled for the team cleaning her shooting stages using only two spares. She tagged off to Susan who also cleaned just using one spare. Clare anchored for the team crossing the line in 14th. They had a total of one penalty lap and used 11 spares. For the men, Jake was joined by USBA teammates Leif Nordgren, Sean Doherty, and Paul Schommer. Jake anchored for the team and cleaned using only one spare. The team had a strong race finished 11th with no penalties and only 5 spares. 

Next weekend’s World Cup takes place in Kontiolahti, Finland. Stay tuned!

IBU Cup:

The IBU Cup squad had a strong weekend of racing in Minsk despite diminishing course conditions. In the first sprint, Hallie Grossman was the top US women’s finisher placing 39th with three misses. For the men, Alex Howe placed 43rd with two misses. He was followed by Raleigh Goessling in 56th with three misses. In the second sprint, Hallie had another solid race finishing 22nd with only one miss. On the men’s side, Alex placed 34th also with one miss and Raleigh finished 62nd. The final race of the IBU Cup season was a 60-person mass start. In this new event Hallie placed 28th with three misses and in the men’s race, Alex placed 36th with 4 misses.

Next up is US Nationals which will be held in West Yellowstone, MT.
