Finals Racing in Amsterdam

Last Updated: 30.Aug.2014

Finals racing has been furious in Amsterdam, with world records being broken in many different event classes, some of which have stood for almost two decades. The lightweight quad was the first to race for the US and Craftsbury, making a statement in Friday's B final where they lead from wire to wire. The US won in a time of 5:54 ahead of Mexico, Uruguay and Brazil.

Josh Konieczny and Austin Meyer were next to race in Saturday's B final of the men's lightweight double after coming in fourth from a photo finish in the A/B semifinal. The crew was 5th off the line and was locked in a tight battle all the way down, using a strong sprint to pass the Danish to take 4th at the line in a time of 6:19.5. Great Britain won the B final in a time of 6:16.7 and South Africa won the A final.

The men's heavyweight quad also raced in the B final on Saturday, rowing in third place off the line and fighting to second place by the halfway mark of the race. Racing was incredibly tight all the way down but finished second, 0.6 seconds behind Canada in a time of 5:40.89 for 8th place overall.

Racing continues tomorrow with the rest of the A finals but afterwards it is back to Vermont for the Craftsbury contingent. The focus now shifts to the fall racing season, with the Head of the Charles and the USRowing Fall Speed Order in October and November.
