Double Podiums in West Yellowstone; Lillehammer World Cup Wrap-Up

The Green Racing Project skiers kicked off December with another weekend of strong race results. Half of the team raced the opening SuperTour weekend in West Yellowstone, MT, while the other half raced a mini-tour on the World Cup in Lillehammer, Norway.

West Yellowstone SuperTour

The first day of SuperTour racing brought a freestyle sprint at altitude. Ben Lustgarten started his day well with a 4th place in qualification, while Akeo Maifeld-Carucci also qualified well in 11th. Lustgarten made his way through to the A-Final, winning his quarterfinal and placing 3rd in his semifinal. He then skied well in the A Final to take 2nd place on the day. Maifeld-Carucci had a tangle in his quarterfinal and took 5th, good for 22nd on the day. On the women's side, Liz Guiney qualified in 16th place, and Corey Stock just missed qualifying in 32nd. Guiney placed 4th in her heat and missed out on lucky loser, placing 17th on the day. 

On Sunday, the second day of racing, the men skied a 15k freestyle individual start, while women raced 10k. Both Lustgarten and Maifeld-Carucci had outstanding races in the 15k. Lustgarten took the victory by just over 3 seconds. Maifeld-Carucci took 3rd place, just edging out 4th by under a second. In the women's 10k, Guiney placed 18th while Stock was 19th. Lillehammer World Cup

Meanwhile, over in Norway the World Cup continued with a tough three day mini-tour in Lillehammer. The races opened on Friday with a freestyle sprint. On the men's side, Adam Martin raced to 108th in the qualifier. On the women's side, Ida Sargent placed 34th in the qualifier, Caitlin Patterson took 59th, and Kaitlynn Miller was 73rd. The following day, the mini-tour continued with a 10/15k freestyle individual. Caitlin Patterson nabbed her first World Cup points of the season with a 30th place in the 10k, Miller took 60th, and Sargent took 63rd. In the men's race, Martin placed 75th. On Sunday, the final day of competition, racers took on a 10/15k classic pursuit, with the start determined by their finishes in the two previous races. Patterson held strong to finish 34th in the mini-tour, while Miller moved up to 50th. Martin had a great race, moving up to 62nd in the mini-tour, with the 37th fastest time on day.

The World Cup moves next to Beitostolen, Norway, for another freestyle distance race and then a relay on Sunday. Results from this weekend's races, as well as live timing for next weekend is available on FIS-ski.com.
