DIY Endurathon Day

endurathon_eme.jpeg

We’ve been missing running camp here at the Outdoor Center this summer. One of the most notable absences is that of the one, the only, the epic… Endurathon Day! Typically planned on the Wednesday of Camp, Endurathon Day is our big multi-sport, off-campus day of camp complete with biking, hiking, running, swimming, and snacking. While we may not be able to gather in Craftsbury to Endurathon together, we can still set out to tackle our own at-home versions of Endurathon!

We invite everyone in our running community to join in on the fun! For running camp regulars, this will give you a little taste of your annual Willoughby trek. For those who’ve never been to camp but want to tackle an all-day multi-sport adventure, this will give you a fun sampling of what our camp Endurathon is all about. Although Endurathon is traditionally held on Wednesdays, we know real life isn’t the same of camp life. Complete your Endurathon Day sometime in the second week of August, August 10-16, and know that others will be out there doing their own version of this madness too!

So… what exactly does Endurathon entail and how do you do it yourself? Bike somewhere, hike and/or run, swim (if it’s a possibility), eat ice cream and watermelon (definitely mandatory), and then bike home. Do as many or as few of the legs as you want or are able to, simple as that!

Plan your own Endurathon to showcase your favorite local spots or to explore new places close to home. However you do it and wherever you go, be sure to snap a photo or a take a video at each stage of your adventure. Post your photos/videos and tag them with #endurathonday and #runcraftsbury so we can all share in another year of epic Endurathon-ing together, even though we are apart.

For context and inspiration, the Craftsbury Running Camp Endurathon is planned as follows:

  1. Starting from the Center, bike 10 miles north to Irasburg.

  2. Hop in the van for a quick snack and rest break as we drive to Mt Pisgah.

  3. Hike Mt Pisgah!

  4. Run 3-6 miles along Lake Willoughby to reach Willoughby Beach.

  5. Swim in chilly, clear Lake Willoughby.

  6. Chow down of sandwiches, cookies, and watermelon.

  7. Pit stop at the Willoughby Store for ice cream.

  8. Get back in the van for a short nap as we drive back to Irasburg.

  9. Get back on the saddle for the 10 mile ride to the Outdoor Center.

  10. Celebrate with a post-adventure swim and feast!

Get out there, enjoy a summer’s day spent adventuring outdoors, and share the Endurathon hype! You can also send your Endurathon report and photos to running@craftsbury.com, and we may share them in our DIY Endurathon Day recap.
