With Nationals concluded and another two weeks until the Eastern Cup resumes, Craftsbury racers travelled throughout the state to find some less traditional but equally exhilarating racing opportunities. On Saturday, Bob Haydock served up the Bogburn Classic, a singletrack excursion in Pomfret, VT.  On Sunday, racers cruised down Mt. Mansfield and in to Stowe for the annual Stowe Derby. There were Craftsbury contingents of all ages at these races and you can read about all of them here!

The Bogburn was a snowy wonderland and the older racers traversed 10k through the woods. In the women’s race, Adrienne Remick was 17th and the 9th U18 and Jessica Bolduc was 28th. In the U16 women’s race, Quincy Massey-Bierman was 1st followed by Camille Bolduc in 9th. On the men’s side, Damian Bolduc was 47th, and Eric Remick was 53rd. BKL’ers of all ages raced a shorter 2.8k course, where Stella Van der Linde was 4th in the 3/4 grade girls race. In the 7/8 grade boys race, Owen Jones was 2nd.

Fast forward to Sunday, where the green machines travelled to the top of the chilly Mt. Mansfield toll road. In the Stowe Derby, racers zip down the snow covered road then along the Rec Path into the village of Stowe, for roughly 16k of fast paced fun. The Derby has both skate and classic options and the really tenacious can do both (in the Derby Meister category). In the skate race, Nils Koons won the bronze medal. Owen was 15th overall and 1st in the ages 8-18 boys category. Hannah Dreissigacker was just behind him in 16th and she was the 1st woman. Mark Isselhardt was 31st, followed a few minutes later by daughter Anna, who was 87th overall and 2nd in the 8-18 years old girls category. Next was the Sterner gang, where Henry finished 12th in the 8-18 year old boys division and Charlie won the 0-14 boys division! Parents Justin and Sarah were 113th and 115th overall. After the skate race, Nils donned his classic skis to repeat the course, again finishing 3rd. Combining these results, he finished 2nd in the Derby Meister division.

It was a wonderful weekend of fun ski racing in Vermont! Racing continues next weekend with the Silver Fox Trot in Ripton, VT then Eastern Cup/SuperTour racing the following weekend in Lake Placid, NY.
