CNSC juniors on the podium at Black Mountain Eastern Cup

Over the weekend, nearly two dozen Craftsbury juniors made the trek to a chilly Black Mountain in Rumford, Maine for the third stop of the Eastern Cup series. Saturday was combined with the Bates Carnival, upping the ante significantly by adding top New England collegiate skiers to the start list. 

On Saturday, amidst newly fallen snow, women contested 5k while men raced 10k.

On Sunday, temperatures dipped even lower, but the classic sprint races took place without delay. The Craftsbury skiers didn’t let the cold deter them and they had some incredible races! The top 30 finishers in the qualifier move on to the Open Heats, then the next 12 U18/U20 competitors race in the U18/U20 heats and the next 12 U16s race in the U16 heats. This means a long day of intense sprint racing for athletes and coaches alike!

In the open women’s heats, Abigail finished 3rd, Adrienne 9th, and Camille 20th. The final was led by CNSC alum Callie Young. In the open men’s heats, the podium was very green with Jack and Finn placing 2nd and 3rd respectively, followed by Greyson in 24th. 

In the U18/U20 girls’ heats, Isabelle was 4th in her semifinal then 3rd in the final. In the U16 girls’ heat, Anna and Ayla were 3rd and 4th in their semifinal and moved on to finish 5th and 6th in the final. In the U16 boys’ heats, Orion, Leo, Tzevi, and Cormac all contested the semifinals. Orion and Tzevi moved on to the final, where they finished 3rd and 5th, respectively. 

Good job to all these juniors for putting their great performances this weekend and all winter long! Eastern Cup racing continues next week with the Dublin Double in Dublin, NH and the Cheri Walsh Memorial in Holderness, NH.
