CNSC Juniors Help Lead VT to EHS Victory

This weekend, one of the last big championships of the season took place at the Mountain Top Resort in Chittenden, VT: Eastern High School Championships. Eastern High Schools brings together twenty -four of the top high school skiers from Vermont, Maine, New Hampshire, and Massachusetts, as well as a few guests. Craftsbury had a large representation of juniors, sending 16 athletes to race. 

The trio of racing days kicked off with a 5k skate race on Friday.  On the girl’s side, Alex Lawson led the way for CNSC juniors in third place, followed closely by Callie Young in 4th. Avery Ellis was 7th, Phoebe Sweet was 10th, Marika Massey- Bierman was 11th and Madeline Strasser was 18th. Jordi Kulis was 32nd, followed by Adrienne Remick in 33rd, and Ani Koontz- Miller in 41st. On the boy’s side, Noah Eckstein led the way in 15th, followed by Anders Hanson in 17th. Griffin Wright was 26th, Henry Hoffert was 32nd, and Matthew Lawlor was 35th. Finn Sweet was 45th and Will Seivwright was 57th. 

Saturday was a two-race day: a distance race and a sprint. In the 7.5k classic race, Alex was 2nd, followed by Avery in 5th, Phoebe in 6th, and Callie in 7th. Marika was 14th, Ani was 25th, Adrienne 26th, Jordi 27th, and Madeleine 30th.  The boys also raced 7.5k, where Noah took the Craftsbury lead in 9th, followed by Griffin in 16th, and Anders in 25th.  Henry, Finn, and Matthew finished in quick succession, in 39th, 40th, and 41st, respectively, followed by Will in 54th. The afternoon brought about fast and furious sprint racing. In the girls’ race, Alex stood on top of the podium followed by Avery in 7th, Phoebe in 12th, and Marika in 13th.  Callie was 20th, Madeline was 26th, Ani was 30th, Adrienne was 36th, and Jordi was 44th. For the boys, Noah was 10th, Anders 18th, Matthew 31st, and Griffin 38th. Will was 43rd, Henry was 46th, and Finn was 89th. 

Sunday rang in the most exciting race of the weekend: 4 person mixed gender relays! Alex was on the first Vermont team, which got just edged out by the Massachusetts team to take 2nd. Avery was on the 3rd place team and Callie on the 4th. The 5th place team was made up solely of Craftsbury racers and consisted of Phoebe, Marika, Griffin, and Noah. Maddie and Anders teamed up with two other Vermont racers for 12th. Ani was on the 16th place team, Henry on the 21st, Adrienne and Matthew on the 23rd, and Jordi and Finn on the 25th. Vermont took the win over New Hampshire for the Eastern High Schools title,
