CNSC Juniors at VT Eastern High School Qualifiers and NorAm

This weekend, many of Vermont middle and high school racers descended on Craftsbury for the Vermont Eastern High School Qualifier. The qualifier is comprised of two races: a 3k classic race in the morning and 3k skate in the afternoon. The results are then combined to determine who will represent the state of Vermont at the U16 Championships and Eastern High School Championships.

In the U14 girls category, Quincy Massey- Bierman was 2nd, followed by Aliza Wright in 4th. In the high school division, Alex Lawson was the first Craftsbury junior in 5th, followed by Avery Ellis in 6th, Phoebe Sweet in 8th, and Marika Massey- Bierman in 11th. Jordi Kulis was 15th, Adrienne Remick was 17th (3rd U16), Ani Koontz- Miller was 19th, Madeline Strasser was 21st, Claire Ellis was 32nd, and Loren Searles was 42nd. In the afternoon classic race, Quincy won the U14 race. In the high school race, Alex Lawson was once again 5, Avery 6th, and Phoebe 8th. Marika was 9th, Madeline was 14th, and Ani was 16th. Adrienne was 18th (3rd U16), followed by Jordi in 19th, Claire in 40th, and Loren in 54th.

In the boys U14 category, Cormac Leahy was 4th, Orion Cenkl was 6th, Tzevi Schwartz was 8th, and Alan Moody was 9th. In the high school race, Noah Eckstein led the way in 7th, followed by Griffin Griffin (2ndU16) in 13th, Henry Hoffert in 14th, and Nathaniel Wells in 22nd. Anders Hanson was 23rd, Finn Sweet (5th U16) was 26th, Matthew Lawlor was 27th, Jacob Morse was 28th, Bjorn Westervelt was 37th  (8th U16), and Jack Young was 61st (16th U16).

In the U14 afternoon race, Cormac was 3rd, Trey Jones was 4th, Tzevi was 6th, Alan Moody was 8th, and Orion was 9th. In the high school race, Noah was 5th, Henry was 14th, Anders was 15th, and Matthew was 18th. Griffin was 27th (5th U16), followed by fellow U16’s Bjorn in 28th (6th U16), and Finn in 30th (7th U16). Jacob was 31st, Will Seivwright 36th, Nathaniel 38th, and Jack 56th (17th U16).

The U16 championships will be held at Titcomb Mountain in West Farmington, Maine from March 10th through March 12th. Eastern High Schools will be at Mountain Top in Chittenden, VT fro March 17th - March 19th.

On Sunday, Bjorn Westervelt and Marika Massey- Bierman travelled to Lake Placid for a biathlonNorAm. They raced a pursuit race, where Bjorn won the youth boys category with ten penalties and Marika was second in the youth women race with seven penalties.
