Last weekend marked the start of the Eastern Cup season where nearly three hundred racers descended on the Outdoor Center for an all freestyle weekend. As always, the first Eastern Cup brings together a large field of junior, elite, college, and masters racers.

The weekend began with a freestyle sprint. In the qualifier Craftsbury newcomer Abigail Streinz was the quickest CNSC junior, finishing 12th (1st U18). Next was Quincy Massey-Bierman in 23rd (1st U16), followed by Adrienne Remick in 50th (12th U18). Hannah Streinz was 48th (13th U23), Camille Bolduc was 65th (8th U16), while Sydney Kulis was 121st (47th U18). The top 30 advanced to the open heats, where Abigail finished 17th and Quincy finished 18th. The next 12 fastest U16s raced in the U16 heats, where Camille finished 4th.

On the men’s side, Griffin was the top CNSC qualifier in 43rd (7th U18). Next was Jack Young in 62nd (14th U18) and Caleb Streinz close behind in 63rd (15th U20). Greyson Davis was 81st (18th U18), followed by Aiden Casey in 109 (7th U16), Orion Cenkl in 138th (13th U16), and Tzevi Schwartz in 143rd (15th U16). Cormac Leahy was 144th (16th U16), Makail Tipton was 148th (55th U18), and Linden Stelma-Leonard was 160th (22nd U16). Griffin raced in the U18/U20 heats, where he ultimately finished 5th. Aiden raced in the U16 heats, finished 7th.

Sunday’s races were originally slated to be mass starts, but icy snow conditions necessitated individual races. The women all raced 5k, where Abigail once again led the way in 11th (1st U18), followed by Quincy in 26th (2nd U16). Hannah was 40th (14th U23), Camille was 41st (3rd U16), and Adrienne was 52nd (12th U18). Maggie McGee was 102nd (21st u16), Amma Isselhardt was 127th (3rd U14!) and Sydney was 133rd (49th U18).

For the men’s 10k, Griffin led the way in 40th (5th U18), followed by Caleb in 47th (11th U20). Jack was 81st (20th U18) and Makail was 128th (48th U18).
