Last Updated: 18.May.2017
We're proud to announce that Craftsbury Nordic junior Alex Lawson has just been named as the female Gallagher Cup champion for the 2016-2017 NENSA Eastern Cup season. The top male and female in Eastern Cup points rankings at the end of all eight Eastern Cup races are awarded the Gallagher Cup. Eastern Cup overall winners have been named since 2008, and at the conclusion of the 2014 season, NENSA began awarding the Gallagher Cup to the champions of the season long Eastern Cup series. The Eastern Cup circuit is New England’s, and one of the nation’s, premier race series. Link to the article from NENSA and full points standings here.
Alex is a U20 on the Craftsbury team who had a standout season. Her year culminated with a 4th place finish in the 10k classic individual at Junior Nationals in Lake Placid, as well as a spot on the 2nd place relay team for New England. In Eastern Cup racing, she placed consistently in the top twenty all season, with her best result a 2nd place finish in the classic sprint in Middlebury. She'll be attending Middlebury College in the fall, where she'll race under the direction of head coach Andrew Johnson, a Craftsbury native. Congrats to Alex on her recent success, and we can't wait to see where the next few years take her!
