Center mourns Henchey

Bill Henchey.

The Center community is still reeling from the great loss of a colleague this past Tuesday. That afternoon, Bill Henchey - partner, father, Craftsbury groomer, long time race official and mainstay of the Nordic community - set off for his first ski of the season.

He hadn’t gone far when he had a heart attack. He was not alone very long and life-saving measures were administered by a skier passing by. Upon arrival of COC staff and EMTs, efforts continued. Sadly, he did not survive.

In the midst of our mourning, our hearts go out to Bill's family for their unimaginable loss.

After much consideration and discussion, we're continuing with our Kendall Cup race this weekend, as it's unthinkable that Bill would ever be the reason for cancelling a ski race. At the lower field, we're going to be offering a socially distanced location to post your recollections and reflect a bit on Bill. Stop by and share a memory at a ski race, which seems a most appropriate venue.
