We are pleased to announce that Carole Hakstian will be joining us as the new running camp director.

From Burlington, VT, Carole is a life-long runner and was an accomplished elite runner representing Canada internationally. A three-time Canadian Olympic trials qualifier, Carole was the Canadian Olympic team’s 3,000meter alternate for the 1992 Barcelona Olympics.

Carole was a member of the University of Wisconsin’s 1985 national cross country championship team and, as a Badger, was a three-time All- American and six-time All-Big Ten honoree in cross country and track.  Carole captained the Wisconsin Badgers cross-country teams her junior and senior years.

Carole was the assistant coach of the Men’s and Women’s Cross Country and Track & Field teams at the University of Chicago. She coached the women’s team to their first ever University Athletic Association (UAA) National Cross Country Championship title and was voted Coach of the Year by the UAA Conference coaches.

Carole coaches Vermont high school harriers and has trained athletes to top 15 finishes at the Footlocker Northeast Regional Championships and the New Balance National Indoor Scholastic Track & Field Championships and has also coached runners to overall state titles and top 10 finishes at the Vermont State High School Cross Country, Indoor and Outdoor Track Championships.

Hakstian is eager to welcome runners to the Center’s unique venue and support their pursuit of their running goals. “But I’m just as excited to draw inspiration and fun from training with the motivated athletes who attend Craftsbury’s camps,” added Carole.

We hope you’ll join us in welcoming Carole to the Center!
