Canadian Ski Marathon presentation

Craftsbury members Mark Isselhardt, Bill Kimball and Dan Quinlan will be presenting a free slide show and talk about the Canadian Ski Marathon (CSM) at 4:30pm, Friday, November 29 in Craftsbury’s Activity Center.

The CSM crosses 160km of forests, fields and rivers between Mont Tremblant and Lachute, Quebec on a trail that is open only once a year. Skiers can choose to ski any or all of the ten sections over the two day event. While not a race, the CSM does test a skiers’ ability and endurance. Families with young children may choose to do 1-2 sections while others may attempt to complete the entire trail and earn the title of Coureur de Bois (CdB). Skiers who have completed the CdB Bronze (ski all 10 sections) and Silver (ski all 10 sections with a 5Kg pack) can enter for CdB Gold; which involves skiing the whole trail and spending the night outside in the designated Gold Camp.

The slideshow and discussion of all things CSM aims to answer questions about this special event and to show what gear is helpful. Stories of epic waxing failures, broken bindings and frozen toes can be expected along with the joy of a skiing experience like no other.
