2025 Skate 30k Results
Warmer weather and light snow greeted racers at Craftsbury today for day 2, the 30k freestyle day of the Marathon Ski Festival.
Men's FS 30k
1) Francis Izquierdo-Bernier - 1:28:20.7 - SR, Fondeurs-Laurentides, Saint-Adolphe-d'Howard, QC
2) Edward Southward - 1:30:07.3 - SR, XC Ottawa, Ottawa, ON
3) Ricardo Izquierdo-Bernier - 1:31:22.7 - SR, Fondeurs-Laurentides, Montréal, QC
An all Canadian podium, the top 3 had spent the first lap together after separating early from the rest of the field. Franics Izquierdo-Bernier dropped the hammer on the second lap, negative splitting and pulling almost 2 minutes out of second placed Edward Southward (yesterday's winner) and third placed Ricardo Izquierdo-Bernier - himself a former NCAA skier who earned World Cup starts in 2020.
Women's FS 30k
1) Britta Clark - 1:42:25.6 - M1, GRP Run/Maine Mussel Project, Goshen, VT
2) Sarah Lange - 1:42:33.2 - M1, Lyme, NH
3) Maddie Leopold - 1:44:27.9 - M1, Woodstock, VT
The women's race was substantially closer and featured two athletes who are currently more known for their athletic feats off the snow than on. GRP ultra-runner Britta Clark and gravel cyclist Sarah Lange moved into first and second as they approached the feed in the stadium just before the first lap. Clark tracked Lange down on the second lap, making up a 12s deficit and pulling out an additional 8 for good measure as the runner prevailed. Maddie Leopold was pretty solidly in a solo third after lap one and only tightened her grasp on bronze over the last lap.
