Last Updated: 17.Jul.2019

Just 48 hours after the sound of the final horn of MegaTrials, the first flag dropped on the GRP at USRowing Nationals. Three men and four women represented the Cedar Leaves on Lake Harsha in Bethel, Ohio. Jen, Alex, Bridget and Taylor represented the women in the Elite Single category while Lucas, John and Tom represented the GRP in the Men’s Elite Single. Additionally, Bridget teamed up with her pal from NYAC, Charlotte Buck, to race the Elite Women’s Double.

The race weekend kicked off with Friday afternoon time trials. The cutoff was the top 12 singles and top 6 doubles. The GRP executed their race plans and all crews advanced to their respective semi finals, with Jen and John posting the fastest times in their categories. Charlotte and Bridget finished 6th in the 2x and advanced directly to their final.

Saturday’s semi finals cut the field in half as only three people from each semi advanced to the final. Alex, Jen and Taylor advanced on the women’s side while John, Lucas and Tom all advanced on the men’s side!

Sunday’s final’s were exciting and full of cedar leaves! The Greenies took home a lot of hardware as Jen and Alex took Gold and Bronze respectively in the women’s Elite 1x. John, Tom and Lucas swept the medal stand the mens side taking home Gold Silver and Bronze respectively. And the a cherry on top of the GRP cake was Bridget and Charlotte’s composite double grabbing a Bronze in the Elite 2x race. Overall it was an awesome weekend for the GRP and a step in the right direction across the board. Additionally, John and Jen’s wins in the 1x earned them each an entry in the Lotman Challenge. Their next leg of the challenge will be racing the Champ 1x at this fall’s Head of the Charles Regatta - good luck to Jen and John!

In the meantime, the GRP looks forward to the Pan American Games in the beginning of August where Jen, Lucas, Wes and Nate will be representing the United States, while the rest of the group will be headed to St. Catharines, Ontario to compete in Canadian Henley.
