Mountain bike racing at the Craftsbury Outdoor Center is back and bigger than ever! Join us the weekend of August 13 & 14, 2022 for the Black River Grand Prix Weekend, a celebration of fast racing, big loops, varied terrain, and fun on bikes in the woods. The format is simple: Saturday is a short track XC race and Sunday is a mass start on one big lap. This ain’t XCO or even XCC, this is VT mountain biking - flow, tech, jank, doubletrack, and even a dirt road or two - there’s something for everyone. Admittedly if you squint, the Short Track may look like what you see on RedBull TV, but rest assured there will be a distinct Vermont flavor.
Grand Prix - August 14
Sunday’s Grand Prix field will head off at 9am on a ~25k (~16mi) course featuring nearly all the riding the Center has to offer. The race never loops back into the stadium, so once you’re gone, you’re gone (though we will have a spot close by where you can stash feeds). First one back wins. We’re playing it close to the vest when it comes to the course layout, but rest assured almost all of it will be fun (what’s a race without a little suffering, right?).
Price & Registration
Saturday’s short track will cost $25 for open racers and $15 for juniors (ages 18 and under). Sunday’s Grand Prix will be $35 for open racers, $25 for college students, and $15 for juniors (ages 18 and under). $10 of every open entry fee will go towards prize money for the open category ($3 to the male and female winners, $2 for second place, and $1 for third place). Juniors are only eligible for prizes, not cash.
Registration is now open on BikeReg.com. Questions? Email bikes@craftsbury.com for answers (and maybe a little snark thrown in for good measure).
