Our BKL competitive program is aimed at kids ages 9-14 who have significant skiing experience, enjoy racing, and are very excited about improving their skills. The program costs $300 and runs from May into November. Prior to the end of the school year, this group will meet twice per week: Wednesday at 4:00pm and Sundays at 9:00am. Starting the week of June 16th, it will meet three times per week: 4:00pm on Tuesdays, and 9:00am on Fridays and Sundays. When school starts again in the fall, practices will be Tuesdays and Thursdays at 4:00pm and 9:00am on Sundays. Training includes rollerskiing, pole-running, running, hill bounding, strength training, biathlon and other activities. The training program will be designed and led by coaches Anna Schulz, Audrey Mangan, Jake Barton, and Ollie Burruss, with occasional coaching from biathlon coach Sam Dougherty, GRP coach Pepa Miloucheva, and GRP members as well.
Participants are required to have the following: current Craftsbury Outdoor Center Membership; running shoes and active clothing; a bike helmet; at least one high-visibility shirt or vest; a mountain bike (though not having a bike should not discourage registration as we have a limited number of bikes for rent); and ideally, skate rollerskis, boots, and poles with rollerski ferrules (again, we do have a limited supply of rollerskis, boots, and poles that will be available for rent).
