This clinic is a weekend event at the Craftsbury Outdoor Center (COC) bringing together athletes with visual impairment (VI) and guides, providing them both with coaching and skills to develop as Nordic skiers. The target audience is both
(a) athletic individuals who may be interested in competing so they can try out XC skiing for the first time, and (b) individuals who already XC ski and would like to develop their skills further.
Though this clinic is geared towards VI athletes that have or may have an interest in competing at some point, we encourage any VI athlete to apply as it can allow one to hear about our future adaptive events for folks with all different abilities and interests.
Successful applicants will receive complimentary housing, meals, coaching and equipment use as part of the clinic. While not required, we encourage athletes to recruit a guide to apply also. This could be someone who may or may not have experience guiding but who is interested in working with them in the future. Guide’s housing, meals, coaching and equipment use are also covered under this clinic.
The Outdoor Center is well suited to host the clinic, as we have experienced ski coaches, rental equipment, world-class trails and grooming, and comfortable accommodations all right at our venue. In addition to the Outdoor Center’s staff, several coaches with international experience working with VI skiers and guides will be taking part in the weekend clinic.
Application can be found here. Feel free to reach out to Davis with questions. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis until November 20, or whenever the clinic has reached capacity.
