FIS racing finally returns to the Craftsbury Outdoor Center for the 2021 season. In accordance with Vermont’s latest guidance concerning ski racing during the COVID19 pandemic, we are looking forward to welcoming VT racers of all ages for our interval start freestyle races.
Pandemic Race Day Requirements
The state of Vermont has issued new guidance that allows racers of all ages to participate in interval start races in start groups of up to 25 athletes. To read the full guidance, check out the ACCD guidelines and the snowsports competition addendum. In addition to the guidance on number of starters and the start format, all race participants (athletes, coaches, officials, and volunteers) are now required to fill out the health survey twice prior to race day, once 24-48 hours in advance and again on race morning. In order to comply with these new guidelines, it is imperative that racers and coaches provide organizers with accurate contact information. This means you should check the email you use to register for events.
Moving forward, we will not be permitting athletes who have failed to complete either health screen to start. Coaches and volunteers who do not complete the required surveys will be asked to leave the venue. This is a state requirement and we do not have leeway on this.
Furthermore spectators are not permitted at these events. Sorry, parents, we don’t like it anymore than you do, but the state explicitly bans spectating.
Schedule
The proposed schedule below will give racers an idea of how the day may shake out, though we will combine categories where possible to condense the schedule (i.e. combining FIS and open waves or open and U16 waves). A final schedule will be announced after registration closes on Wednesday evening, January 27th.

Bib & Chip
If you are a racer in the FIS or open 10/15k or the U16 events, you must remember to bring your bib and chip if you have received them already. If you have recently rented the bib and chip from NENSA, it will be available for you to pick up on race morning in the Lower Field. DO NOT FORGET YOUR BIB OR CHIP!
Prize Money
We will be awarding prize money to the top 3 men and women in the FIS cohorts, courtesy of Marty & Kathy Hall’s Hall Mark of Excellence campaign. $300 for first, $200 for second, $150 for third. Competitors must determine their own eligibility for prize money. Money will be awarded at 11am for the women and 2pm for the men.
Registration
Register now at SkiReg.com. Registration closes Wednesday, Jan. 27th at 8:30pm. All coaches and parent volunteers need to register as well for contact tracing purposes. We ask that clubs keep the number of coaches and volunteers to a minimum to reduce crowding at events. If we see abuse of this we may be forced to require U.S. Ski & Snowboard memberships for all club personnel on race day.
