Training week of 6/17

EVERYONE:

  1. Attendance form: you got this

  2. Summer schedule starts this week! Pay extra attention to practice start times — some groups we nudged even earlier than 9:00am to try and #beattheheat. Speaking of which…

  3. It’s gonna be HOT, especially Tues-Thurs. We’ve planning water-adjacent practices for kids this week to mitigate the melt factor. Bring towels and extra clothes.

JUNIORS:

  1. Be prepared with THE WORMS: what’s that? Why, a fun acronym Anna made up circa 2015 to help y’all be prepared for practice with the things you need EVERY DAY, regardless of training modality. It still holds up:
Towel - in case we go swimming
    Heart Rate Monitor (or watch)
Eats - real food! Lunch! Snacks!

Water (and a pack to carry it with you)
Outfit - for running and biking
    Running Shoes
    Meds - if needed
    Sun Protection

  2. This is a hard week: the last one of this cycle, and then next week is an easy week.

  3. Spring check-in meetings: we’re getting through most of you! Pin us down if you haven’t had a chance to chat. There will be more opportunities after we switch to the summer schedule, too.

  4. Big summer dates for your planning:

The costume box came out at last year’s campout on Great Hosmer Pond!

  • 7/7 - Lost Nation Roll, skate rollerski race @ COC (registration is here). Totally optional and geared towards more experienced rollerskiers.

  • 7/17-7/18 - overnight campout/training weekend based out of tents and an off-grid cabin on the lake, down the road from COC

  • sometime the week of 8/5 - day trip to the White Mountains for a big ol’ hike

  • 8/12-8/16 - Lake Placid training camp trip based out of a collection of rental houses in downtown LP.

At some point we will take head counts for these excursions, but we’re just giving y’all a heads up for now. These trips have been super fun the past few years and we look forward to them all summer.

U14s:

  1. Way to crush a big ol’ hike on Sunday!

  2. Note some earlier than promised practice start times!

  3. Be prepared with THE WORMS: see explanation in the junior section above.

BKL:

  1. NO PRACTICE this week because it’s going to be meltingly hot at 4pm

  2. Tuesday TNR kids’ races: some of you have already figured this out, but every summer Tuesday at 6:00pm there is a ~3k kids trail running race at the Center in conjunction with the adult 5k. All free. If you’re chomping at the bit for more activity, check ‘em out!

  3. Please remember the attendance form! Not so relevant this week, but the past two practices we thought there’d be two of you, which made us sad, but then there were a whole bunch of you! Which was fun, but we like to be prepared.

BIATHLETES:

  1. Junior/U14 biathletes:  adapted practiced times due to heat. Tuesday we will meet 10 am for slowfire drills. Thursday we will integrate combos into the ski workout, starting at 8:30.

There are a bunch of cuffs that you should test out. You can find them on the table to the right of the rifle cabinet.

  2. BKL biathlon is canceled this week due to heat

ADULTS/MASTERS:

  1. Probably not going to practice Wednesday - too hot! Check Slack on Wednesday midday for confirmation.
