U16 Championships at Gore Mountain

The annual U16 Championships took place this past weekend at Gore Mountain in North Creek, New York. We had a strong Craftsbury contingent of Sydney Kulis, Jack Young, Makail Tipton, Greyson Davis, and Aiden Casey. These youngsters helped lead Team Vermont to New England U16 victory! 

The weekend kicked off on Friday, with 5k skate races. In the girl’s race, Sydney was 71st. In the boys race, Jack led the way for Craftsbury in 12th, followed by Makail in 14th, Greyson in 18th, and Aiden in 35th. 

Saturday morning brought about more 5k races, but this time in the classic style. For the girls, Sydney was 78th. For the boys, Makail was 6th, Greyson was 8th, Jack was 12th, and Aiden was 41st. Saturday afternoon marked the inaugural ski cross event at U16’s! Jack Young was the nimblest of them all, completing the course is 3:01. Greyson was next in 10th, followed by Aiden in 29th, and Makail in 35th. Sydney was 89th in the girl’s race. 

The weekend wrapped up on Sunday with the mixed relays. Greyson and Jack were part of the winning quad, teaming up with Victoria Bassette of Woodstock and Camille Bolduc of South Burlington. Makail was on the 5th place team, with Emma Strack, Samantha Nolan, and Mathias Boudreau Golfman. Aiden was on the 19th place team and Sydney was on the 26th place team.

In addition to State awards, individual awards are presented to overall top finishes. For the boys, Jack was 4th overall, followed by Greyson in 9th, Makail in 16th, and Aiden in 29th. Sydney was 88th for the girls.
