Summer Racing

So after what seemed like a very long hiatus from Craftsbury, everyone has come and (most) have gone again. From the four boats that went to the U23 World Championships, the highlight was Ben Dann’s eleventh place finish in the men’s single. The women’s single and men’s heavy weight double both finished in the C final, and the lightweight men’s double finished in the D final. We all got to have a little fun in the city of Amsterdam once racing was over, and it was a beautiful city to tour.

We returned to Craftsbury to find the remainder of our other athletes training in preparation for Canadian Henley. Some of the Amsterdam athletes decided to attend, and we will have entries in the U23 women’s double, U23 women’s single, Senior women’s single, Senior women’s double, Champ women’s single, Champ men’s single, and Champ men’s eight. Some races started earlier this week, with the rest of the events starting up tomorrow and finishing on Sunday.

Our return also found two senior boats training at Craftsbury in preparation for the trials for the men’s senior team, contesting the World Championships in Bled, Slovenia. The recently formed lightweight double of Taylor Washburn and Jon Graves finished third in their final this morning, showing good promise if they intend to spend more time together in a double leading into next year. The highlight of this morning’s racing was Peter and Tom Graves in the men’s heavyweight double, where they beat boats from the national training center to earn a spot on the team for the World Championships. This will be the Graves brothers’ second trip to the World Championships in the heavyweight double.

Best of luck to all of our athletes racing this week and throughout the weekend!
